~Mood 3/3
It seems to be bright and nearly dramatic sort of feel to the poster. the light colors seem to keep the mood uplifting, whilst the red insinuates something a bit more.
~Colour/Color 2/3
However simple it is, and how well you did to capture the mood, the colors look washed out and a bit boring. The most vibrant item overall is the red detail which really pops out to the viewer.
~Font 2/3
Here you have used four different types of fonts, try and keep the fonts to a minimum of 2. This way there is more unity in the poster and it doesn't look random and confusing.
~Image Suitability 2/3
Well, you didn't have much choice on choosing the images, perhaps if you had blended the first (on the top left) at the bottom, that straight line would not have been so visible.
Unless it was intended to be there, in which case, it didn't work because it looks like it's from the image anyway.
~Overall layout 2/3
The writing seems to be everywhere, and that's a bit distracting. The image placement and the effects placement is well done, perhaps a bit of a smoother blend for where both boys heads meet.
Extra:
Lots of designers seem to have problems with fonts. Please check out our page on choosing fonts...

You mentioned that you did not add effects, I do think that you can add effects without losing the simplicity of a design. This is seen in many of the scrapbook type of graphics, however if you are unable to do those, there are always other ways.
Such as in a Vann design for a poster called Returning to You.

This is very simple and yet there are effects which do not overpower, but add a little extra to it.
